Oyster mushrooms, scientifically named Pleurotus ostreatus, are among the most widely cultivated mushrooms globally. They are also referred to as pearl oyster mushrooms or tree oyster mushrooms.
Naturally growing on trees in temperate and subtropical forests, they are commercially farmed across many countries. This species is closely related to king oyster mushrooms. Besides food use, oyster mushrooms are also applied industrially for mycoremediation.
